Hand-Engraved Watch Dials: A Guide to HANOISON Designs
Revelation is one HANOISON name carried by two very different dial compositions. One is built from flowing foliate scrollwork and fleur-de-lis motifs. The other sets celestial bodies and orbital paths above a central sun, then brings scrollwork, a fleur-de-lis and a keyhole into the lower half. Both are hand-engraved, but they do not tell the same visual story.
Dial engraving is part of the face of the watch
The dial sits beneath the hands and crystal, so its engraving is visible whenever the time is read. That is different from a personal inscription on the caseback, which sits on the reverse of the watch. A hand-engraved dial can carry an ornamental or symbolic composition without implying that a name, date or message has been added to the caseback.
The foliate Revelation: continuity in scrollwork
On the foliate Revelation, the eye moves through plant-like scrollwork that continues across the dial without a defined beginning or end. HANOISON uses that unbroken movement to express the passage of time and the way meaning can continue from one generation to the next.
Fleur-de-lis motifs interrupt and anchor the curves. Within this design, they stand for purity, faith and enduring heritage. The result is a dial organised by repetition and flow rather than by a single dominant celestial figure.
The celestial Revelation: sun, orbits and a threshold
The celestial Revelation divides its composition more clearly. Celestial bodies and their orbital paths occupy the upper half, gathered around a central sun. Below them, scrollwork continues the sense of movement while the fleur-de-lis represents purity, faith and inherited values.
A keyhole is placed within the lower motif. In HANOISON's account of the design, it marks a threshold through which concealed truth may be perceived. The upper and lower halves therefore work together: recurring celestial cycles above, and the idea of revelation below.

What is hand-engraved, and where 18K plating appears
We engrave both Revelation dials entirely by hand. Variations in the depth and direction of the cuts allow different parts of the composition to emerge as the light changes.
The two dials use 18K gold plating in different ways. The foliate Revelation is engraved before being finished with 18K gold plating. On the celestial Revelation, the central sun is finished in 18K gold plating. In either case, plating describes a surface finish; it is not a claim that the dial, case or complete watch is made from solid 18K gold.
One name, two distinct compositions
The most useful question is simple: which composition do you want to meet each time you look at the watch? The foliate dial is led by continuous ornament and fleur-de-lis forms. The celestial dial is structured around the contrast between the sun and orbital bodies above and the symbolic threshold below.
